GETTING THERE: The easiest way to get to NYC is to arrive by plane at either John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) or LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
LANGUAGE: English is the official language of New York.
CLIMATE: The climate of New York City is generally warm, humid, subtropical. The average temperatures are:
- Winter (December – February) highs in the upper-30s to mid-40s and lows in the mid-20s to 30s.
- Spring (March – May) highs in the mid-50s to low-70s and lows in the upper-30s to mid-50s.
- Summer (June – August) highs in the low to mid-80s and lows in the mid to upper-60s.
- Fall (September – November) Temperatures slightly decline month over month with highs in the mid-70s to mid-50s and lows in the low-60s to low-40s.
MONEY/CURRENCY (CREDIT CARDS, DEBIT CARDS, TIPPING, ATMS): The main currency is the United States Dollar with all restaurants, stores, and hotels accepting credit cards, debit cards, and cash. Tipping ranges from 15% to 25%.
ELECTRICITY: United States uses type A and type B plugs operating on 120V supply voltage and 60Hz.
QUICK TIPS: No need to rent a car while in New York City. Public transportation is readily available and very affordable. Parking is very limited throughout the city and can be very expensive. Additionally, traffic is very heavy.
